Online counselling for depression and low mood in Alberta

Support for low mood, low energy, and feeling disconnected, by secure video or phone, anywhere in Alberta.

Depression doesn't always look like sadness. For many people it feels more like flatness, heaviness, or running on empty. Things that used to matter don't seem to anymore, and even small tasks can take a lot of effort.

It can also be hard to reach out when you're feeling this way. If you're reading this, that's already a step. Counselling offers a steady, non-judgmental space to make sense of what's happening and work out what might help.

What depression and low mood can look like

  • Feeling down, empty, or numb most days
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Low energy, or feeling tired no matter how much you sleep
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Harsh self-criticism, guilt, or feeling like a burden
  • Pulling away from friends, family, or activities
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions

Low mood can come on gradually or follow a loss, a change, or a hard stretch of life. You don't need to know why you feel this way to begin.

How I approach it

I use evidence-based approaches and shape them around your life, your energy, and what feels doable right now.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
We look at how thoughts, feelings, and actions feed into each other. That can include noticing self-critical thinking and gently reintroducing activities that bring a sense of meaning or connection.
Mindfulness-based approaches
Practices that help you step back from rumination, the repetitive thinking that often keeps low mood going, and reconnect with the present moment.
Narrative therapy
Depression can tell a very one-sided story about who you are. Together we look for the parts of your story it leaves out, including your values and the ways you've coped.
Solution-focused therapy
We focus on small, realistic steps and notice what helps, even a little, so you can do more of it.

What sessions involve

Sessions are 50 minutes, by secure video or phone. We'll start by understanding what you've been going through and what you'd like to be different. You don't have to have the words figured out; we'll find them together.

We'll go at your pace. Some sessions are more about talking things through; others focus on practical steps. If your energy is low, we'll keep things manageable.

Online sessions mean you can join from home, which can make it easier to keep showing up on days when getting out feels hard.

If you're having thoughts of suicide or are worried about your safety, please don't wait for an appointment. Call or text 988 any time, or call 911 in an emergency.

If you'd like to talk about whether counselling could help, a free 15-minute consult is a gentle place to start.
