Online counselling for anxiety in Alberta
Support for worry, panic, and feeling on edge, by secure video or phone, wherever you are in Alberta.
Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people reach out for counselling. Sometimes it's obvious: racing thoughts, a tight chest, lying awake replaying the day. Other times it's quieter, like a constant sense of being on edge, or slowly avoiding things you used to handle without much thought.
Either way, it can wear you down. Counselling gives you a private, practical place to understand what is going on and find steadier footing.
What anxiety can look like
- Worry that's hard to switch off, even when you know it's out of proportion
- Feeling restless, tense, or tired without a clear reason
- Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
- Physical signs like a racing heart, an upset stomach, or shallow breathing
- Avoiding situations, conversations, or decisions because they feel like too much
- Panic attacks, or worrying about when the next one might come
- Irritability, or a shorter fuse with the people you care about
You don't need a diagnosis to start. If anxiety is getting in the way of work, school, sleep, or relationships, that's reason enough to talk.
How I approach it
I draw on a few evidence-based approaches and adapt them to you, rather than following a script. We'll use what fits.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- We look at the links between your thoughts, your body, and what you do in response. Together we notice patterns, like expecting the worst or avoiding what feels uncomfortable, and practise new ways of responding.
- Mindfulness-based approaches
- Simple, practical skills for noticing anxious thoughts and sensations without getting swept up in them, and for settling your body when it's on high alert.
- Narrative therapy
- Anxiety can start to feel like part of who you are. Narrative work helps separate you from the problem, so your own strengths, values, and history come back into view.
- Solution-focused therapy
- We pay attention to the moments when anxiety is a little quieter, and build on what's already working for you.
What sessions involve
Sessions are 50 minutes, by secure video or phone. In the first session we'll talk about what's been happening, how anxiety shows up for you, and what you'd like to be different. From there, we'll set a direction together.
Most sessions mix conversation with practical ideas you can try between sessions. Nothing is forced. We'll move at a pace that feels manageable and check in regularly about what's helping and what isn't.
Because sessions are online, you can join from home or any private space in Alberta. For many people that makes it easier to start, especially when anxiety makes getting out the door feel like a lot.
If you're wondering whether counselling could help with anxiety, a free 15-minute consult is a low-pressure way to ask questions and see if we're a good fit.
